In our household, football isn’t just a sport; it’s a cherished ritual, and the game day menu is a crucial part of that tradition. My husband, Chris, takes his role as chief game day planner very seriously. Weeks in advance, he’ll be meticulously discussing potential dishes, ensuring we have every ingredient on hand for the ultimate culinary lineup. It’s a delightful part of our family life, seeing him so enthusiastic.
Our sons, Reece and Bryce, are quickly inheriting their dad’s passion for sports, which makes watching games together an even more special experience. Bryce, with his endearing innocence, usually roots for whichever team is currently dominating the scoreboard – a strategy that certainly keeps things interesting! Reece, however, has developed a more refined taste in football teams. He’s narrowed his loyalties down to three: the 49ers, primarily because they’re Chris’s team and a strong contender; the Seahawks, a nod to our memorable family trip to Seattle where we even toured their impressive stadium; and the Panthers, simply because a panther is one of his favorite animals. It’s a sweet and simple logic that often brings a smile to our faces.

Of course, I anticipate these preferences might evolve as they grow older and the seasons change, and that’s perfectly fine. I often remind the boys that this phase of their lives is probably the only time it’s acceptable to openly cheer for more than one team without fear of judgment from fervent fans! It’s all part of the fun and learning about the world of sports.
So, as we celebrated the official opening of football season, I knew I needed to bring out a recipe that would score major points. I wanted something that perfectly encapsulated everything you could ask for in game day food: it had to taste undeniably like pizza, be effortlessly handheld, totally dippable for maximum enjoyment, and ideally, something that could be prepared in advance to minimize stress on the big day. These Pepperoni Pizza Twists check all those boxes and more. I truly believe I’ve found a winner here!

I am absolutely thrilled to share this incredibly easy and utterly delicious recipe with you today! These Pepperoni Pizza Twists are incredibly versatile, making them perfect for a quick and fun weeknight dinner, an impressive yet simple appetizer for guests, or the ultimate snack for your next game day gathering. Why You’ll Fall in Love with These Pepperoni Pizza Twists
These aren’t just any pizza snacks; they’re a delightful upgrade. I drew inspiration from similar easy pizza stick recipes but elevated these twists significantly. The secret? Extra generous layers of savory pepperoni and gooey mozzarella cheese, all encased in perfectly seasoned pizza dough. The process is surprisingly simple: we roll out the dough, layer on the fillings, fold it over, cut it into strips, give each strip a quick twist, and then a fast trip to a hot oven. Before you know it, you’ll have a batch of golden, cheesy, pepperoni-filled delights ready to be devoured!

The beauty of these twists lies in their simplicity and the explosion of flavor in every bite. They truly embody “easy, cheesy, awesomeness” – a phrase that perfectly describes the joy they bring to any table. The combination of the crisp, savory crust, the melted cheese, and the zesty pepperoni creates a symphony of textures and tastes that is hard to resist. Plus, the twisting action makes them incredibly fun to eat, adding a playful element to your meal or snack time.

Tips for Making the Best Pizza Twists
- **Dough Matters:** Starting with good quality, room temperature pizza dough is key. If your dough is too cold, it will be difficult to roll out. Store-bought fresh pizza dough from your grocery store’s refrigerated section works wonderfully, or you can use your favorite homemade recipe.
- **Even Rolling:** Aim for an even rectangle when rolling out your dough. This ensures uniform strips and consistent baking.
- **Season Generously:** Don’t be shy with the seasoning blend! It adds a fantastic burst of flavor that really elevates these twists.
- **Cut with Precision:** A sharp knife or pizza cutter will give you clean strips. For best results, try to make the strips relatively even in width.
- **Twist and Seal:** When twisting, give each strip a few good turns, then gently press down on the ends to seal in the fillings. This prevents cheese and pepperoni from escaping during baking.
- **Parchment Paper is Your Friend:** Lining your baking sheet with parchment paper is highly recommended. It prevents sticking and makes cleanup a breeze.
- **Golden Brown Perfection:** Keep an eye on the twists as they bake. You want them to be beautifully golden brown for maximum crispness and flavor. Baking times can vary depending on your oven.
Customization and Variations
One of the best things about these Pepperoni Pizza Twists is how easily they can be customized to suit your taste preferences or whatever ingredients you have on hand:
- **Cheese, Please!** While mozzarella is a classic choice, feel free to experiment with other cheeses. Provolone, Monterey Jack, a spicy pepper jack, or a blend of Italian cheeses would all be delicious.
- **Meat Lovers:** Not a fan of pepperoni? Try finely diced cooked ham, crumbled cooked sausage, or even mini turkey pepperoni for a lighter option. Just make sure any meat additions are pre-cooked and finely chopped.
- **Veggie Power:** Sneak in some finely diced vegetables! Sautéed mushrooms, finely chopped bell peppers, or black olives would add extra flavor and nutrients. Make sure they are small enough not to tear the dough.
- **Herb Heaven:** Enhance the seasoning by adding a pinch of dried oregano, basil, or Italian seasoning to your garlic powder and parsley blend. A little onion powder can also add depth.
- **Spicy Kick:** For those who like a bit of heat, increase the amount of red pepper flakes or add a dash of cayenne pepper to the seasoning mix.
- **Dipping Delight:** While marinara and ranch are fantastic, consider serving these with a warm garlic butter sauce, a zesty pesto dip, or even a creamy sriracha mayo for an adventurous twist.

Pepperoni Pizza Twists
Ingredients
- 1 lb pizza dough (room temperature)
- 2 tsp garlic powder
- 2 tsp dried parsley
- 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
- 6 tbsp of grated Parmesan cheese (use more if you’d like!)
- 3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- 4 oz pepperoni
- 4 oz shredded mozzarella cheese
Instructions
-
Preheat the oven to 425F.
-
Roll the dough out into a rectangle on a lightly floured large cutting board.
-
Combine the garlic powder, parsley, Parmesan cheese, and red pepper flakes in a small bowl. Sprinkle about half of the seasoning blend onto the dough.
-
Sprinkle the mozzarella cheese on one half of the dough and top it with the pepperoni. If you are using mini pepperoni, you can leave it whole. If you’re using full-size pepperoni, you’ll want to cut them into quarters.
-
Fold the side of the dough without the pepperoni on it over to the other side, covering the filling.
-
Use a sharp knife or a pizza cutter to cut the dough into thin strips. You’ll get about 12 strips out of one pound of dough. Twist the strips a few times and press down on the ends to keep them closed.
-
Brush the tops of the twists with olive oil and sprinkle with seasoning blend.
-
Place the twists on a parchment-lined baking sheet, seasoned side down.
-
Brush the other side of the twists with olive oil and sprinkle with seasoning blend again.
-
Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until twists are golden brown.
-
Serve with marinara or ranch dressing.
